hell i think apple created the POD name in popular imagination.
they need to protect the product brand name POD from being brought down in value by companies like PODFITNESS and others, that use their name in it.
Apple needs to protect the brand name. but need to do it nicely.
hard thing to balance. lets hope it goes ok.

Off-topic comment, but still related to external storage.
I received my Mac mini around noon, and I found something the previous (at least the GMA950 Core 2 Duo) model didn't support: USB flash storage works when connected to a side USB port of the aluminium Apple keyboard. My older Mac mini complains about lacking power via that USB port but the new one works just fine!

Strange question: can you use the Firmware Restoration CD to update your firmware? This disc is designed to fix a bad update from CD, bypassing the hard disk and the RAID array. Seems to me that it should work, in theory.
Read all about it here (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/firmwarerestorationcd11.html). New version released today for the latest Mac Pro firmware.

MS just doesn't get it. No OS X, no sale. Whenever MS tries anti-Apple marketing, they lose. They're completely out of touch, deer in the headlights style, in this new market situation. It's now becoming comical.
They tried this garbage with their Laptop Hunters campaign a couple of years ago, where they showcased some yokels walking into a big box store and passing over Macs due to price.
Apple went on to sell more Macs than ever before.
Desperation breeds a lot of baloney. The PC and netbook market are contracting at an alarming rate, thanks to the effects of the post-PC era, where MS barely has any presence.
Keep milking that Windows licensing cash cow, MS. Google and Apple have you right where they want you.
May Steve Ballmer continue to drive MS into the ground. It's fun to watch.
No OSX, no sale? That is an idiotic statement. Tell that to 90% of the computer market. Tell me more about the post pc era.
While that may be true for you, it's not true for many others. Windows is not complicated no matter how much you want it to be.
It may be complicated for those who have trouble with Playskool products.
Oh and it falsely compares the fast MacBook Air to snail netbooks.
WRONG. OS X is worth its value.
Good luck getting magsafe and other Apple exclusive features on a PC.
It really isn't fair to compare the MBA to a netbook as all they have in common is size. And Widnows is worth its value to over a billion users too.

Very cool idea. Now, what airlines need to do is publish this information on their websites so you can know when choosing your seats what are the accommodations of 19F.
I always use seatguru.com to choose a good seat.

Does anybody know what happened to nadyne the Microsoft rep that used to hang around MacRumors and had good tips on how to solve certain issues with Office?
I urgently need to get the template support in PowerPoint working correctly...
It seems that her last post to the forum happened in October 2010...
She probably left this place. Why would anyone want to do business here when all people do is trash Microsoft.

It will be interesting to see if Apple develops its own controller chip for ARM processors. Currently the Intel controller is designed for Intel processors that incorporate PCI express architecture. ARM architecture is quite different. Thunderbolt is currently designed for the standard Mac line of products using Intel Processors. All the mobile products are Arm based processors.
The idea of having a common connector like minidisplay port is quite awesome, and the utilization is all in the software control approach. Dual channel, full bidirectional, with the possibility of multiple protocols running simultaneously with very high data rates. Apple is just covering their future bases, and doing it very nicely.
I saw posts asking about backward compatibility possibilities. The answer is a definite no. But the future arrangements will be most interesting.
One post wanted everything to go thru a standard phone jack. Not at all likely or even possible.

Is this not a dream thread!
Fine 410m.
@ Retina display. I seriously doubt IGP 3000 is capable of even running OS X at this resolution let alone anything 3D based like a game.

Macs have the intelligence built in to auto-connect independent of the cable type. It doesn't matter what kind of cable you use, your Mac sorts it out internally. Cool, huh?

I had to rate this front page story as "negative"
just on-a-count-a I'm not used to seeing human faces when I visit the mr site
Make it go down the page, Please!
No human faces? wtf?
will that do then?
http://www.star.le.ac.uk/edu/Root_folder/et.jpg
Then there are those that are playing a game of "Who am I?" by posting to this inside The Loop via a private, self paid, wireless, VPN.
I am sure there are but I don't really see what you mean, other than that.

I saw some of the difficulties in cropping this, and wondered if an oval crop would help. Once I started playing with it, then I started really seeing the ovals/circles: chips, cups, table, his hat, her glasses, tomatoes. And I saw the rectangles: floor tiles, trays, paper dishes. More contrasts! After experimenting with the oval crop, it felt right to put this within a rectangle frame --another contrast, and it makes me feel more like I'm sneaking a peek at this couple, as Keleko did when shooting this pict.
What do you think?
I think it feels a little too tight for me. It might work if it was more room in it, though. I saw someone else disagreed with the oval, though. Anyone else have thoughts?
(Keleko: I saw some of your other flickr photos from this day. Some good candidates for the Surrealism contest!)
Dang, I already posted one from a long while ago for the contest. I didn't think any of the museum shots fit the surreal theme. Which ones did you think were a good fit? (You can PM them to me if you prefer.)

I did the update and still can't get XP to load. Blue screen just after loading all the drivers for install. I used this same CD to install on my MBP (before I sold it to get the Mac Pro [yes, I uninstalled it before selling it, so no piracy here]), so I know it's the Mac Pro that hates Windows as much as me.

ipad is obviously the best tablet on the market, it's like reporting water is wet. I don't think iphone4 is the best phone on the market though, I've tried many of the latest and greatest including the ip4 and they're all equally great in their own ways.

If you want just the email account then yes, .Mac is not worth it. That's the point. .Mac is more than email, and if you want an email address, get Gmail and hook it up into Mail.app....
Are you saying you're happy it costs $99? You don't want to pay less, no? The more complaining and bad feedback we give Apple that this service is simply too expensive the better, and the better chance we have they will begin to pay attention to loads (http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=.Mac%20too%20expensive&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8) of posts/blogs/and stories on this. I feel sick when I have to tell someone how much it costs. I mean they say .Mac syncing is included! You have to pay to sync computers that you payed money for, and worse still you have to give it to the company you bought the computers from?? Give me a break! GMail is free too. iWeb provides little bandwidth, and the whole this is wrapped-up with a tiny storage package. And I don't think the solution is for Apple to give us more storage. I would prefer a cheaper price to more storage any-day. If you want moe storage then you pay $99, otherwise this should cost no more than $49 per year. At the VERY MOST!!

Even then we're still talking about hundreds of articles. I think it would be faster to design a structure as best we can, implement it, then fix any problems if there are any. That way we might have to edit some articles twice, rather than definitely having to edit all the articles in the beta categories twice.
