hey kalindi, just one question, i am not well versed in the GC procedures, so this might be really out of sync, but arent the priority dates of EB2 India August 2004, how could you apply for i485 when ur PD was July 2005??

You can say to your current employer that you want to try out something new, but if it doesn't work out you want to have the option of coming back.
If they like you enough, they will consider it. How long to leave it active is another question. Lets say you were able to port the PD to your new I140. If the old employer then revokes the I140, are you still ok with the old PD?

I am currently a masters student in an american university. My
graduation is in May 2007. I am planning to apply for H1B visa soon
after.
1. Assuming that my H1B status is approved and I recieve my H1B papers
by October, how long should I wait until my employer can file for my
greencard application?
2. It is been announced that the premium processing for the labor
certification is available. This means that there is 2 week decesion
instead of months like before. Therefore how much would be the time
from after the application will I be able to change my status from H1B
to permanent resident and recieve my greencard? Does the premium
processing shorten the time?

Yahoooooooooooooo......We (Me and my wife) received welcome notice today . Our 485 is approved on 25 th March.
no updates online just received postal mail from USCIS today .
I guess end of long wait , been in country from 2001 .
I wish you all the best and hang in there if your PD is current you can expect the notice any time so keep checking your postal mail box .
FYI - I dont know if my back ground check is clear or not , I guess it is .
Congratulations and take a big vacation and ....enjoy!!!

1) By applying H1b extension after entering on AP
2) going out of country and entering with valid h1b visa stamp.

CIS have been targeting reducing processing times for applications including I-485 (for I-485 they want it to be <180 days). Which they are doing, based on their definition of pending (non retrogressed approvable application). They can easily achieve this, give retrogressed countries/categories bare minimum and they process all other applications as quickly as possible. Which explains all of the following..
EB3 made unavailable (they have used all the visa numbers)
EB2-India move way back (they have used all the visa numbers)
EB1 and EB2 quick approvals (for all current categories) average down to 200 days
There were around 3000 visas for EB2-1 and EB3-I , considering 1.2 dependent this means GC for no more than 1400 families in each category. The math is simple getting that many applications processed in first 6-8 months was not difficult.
To add to the woes we have following, which add to the problem, but are not the primary problem.
Labor substitution
EB3-EB2 jumps
Very old name-check cases

I would suggest send an email, fax and certified mail asking your salary and give a time of a week.
Fill WH4 form along with copy of H1 approval and submit to the office of DOL where you worked for that period.

If you have already received your approval notice then the change in online status is a matter of time. I saw an nearlier post on the forum that said it took over a week for the online status to show that I-485 was approved.
If you could complete your profile information, it will greatly help folks like me who have the PD in the same date range.
After a long 5 years I finally received 485 case approved letter for both my case and my spouse's case. However the online status still shows pending. Is this common?. How long would it take for the online case status to be updated.

I have been full-time with big company for the past 9 years. Stuck with EB3. I need a serious input from you guys about joining in a new company and applying EB2. I probably get new employment with a small firm of size 100-150 employees. I have MS from USA in 2005. Is it good idea to join in new company or is it a worth waiting for EB3 dates. My PD is in 2003. What if you are in my situation? Please advise. Thanks.
